Scout Strolls, Harbor Otter Lore, And Big Dog Summer On Deck

Today’s Baltimore sweetness is mostly of the wandering-around-town variety: Scout closes out downtown, the Harbor otters keep giving us reasons to brag, and BARCS is already setting the table for next weekend’s giant-dog extravaganza.

Visit Baltimore says Scout Art Fair runs through today, Sunday, May 24, 2026 at the War Memorial Building, with work from emerging and established regional artists in partnership with Artscape. A free Baltimore outing where you can drift through rooms, point at something bright, and feel a tiny bit more interesting by lunch is good for the spirit, hon.

Did you know the Harbor otters are out here helping researchers now too

The National Aquarium said in its May 18 story A Wealth Of Science From A Lowly Source that Harbor Wetland’s frequent otter visitors helped the Aquarium join the Chesapeake Bay Otter Alliance and contribute more than 150 samples to research. Baltimore really said yes, our waterfront mammals are adorable, but they are also bringing something to the group project.

BARCS is still preparing a very persuasive end-of-May weekend

Big Dog Summer is coming up Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter, with waived adoption fees for dogs and cats thanks to Patient First. If you have ever looked at a giant shelter mutt and thought "that is my son," next weekend may have some ideas for you.
