BARCS is already setting the table for a very persuasive end-of-May weekend
BARCS has Big Dog Summer coming up on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter, with adoptable dogs and cats and waived adoption fees thanks to Patient First. A whole Baltimore weekend built around big-headed sweethearts finding homes is the kind of civic programming I would like to see us overachieve at forever.
If your kid still has a Pratt card and a little hustle, Read to Reef is absolutely still in play
Pratt says Baltimore City kids in fifth grade and under can still finish their Read to Reef books and redeem Aquarium tickets through June 21, 2026. Free library books turning into a family Aquarium day is such a strong Baltimore sentence that it barely needs embellishment, but it is especially nice when late spring starts feeling expensive.
The Aquarium just slipped in a reminder that our harbor wildlife has real main-character energy
In its May 1 impact-report release, the National Aquarium noted that the Harbor Wetland has been pulling in wildlife from terrapins and blue crabs to those very online river otters that keep showing up on trail cameras. A free outdoor wetland by the water where otters occasionally act like they own the place is, respectfully, an elite Baltimore detail.
